Agenda
The impact of the nutrition and health agenda on global regulations
Presented by Jenny Arthur – Head of Membership and Nutrition
Nutrition and health remain key trends driving innovation in the food and beverage industry. During this presentation, we explore some of these trends in more detail, including sustainable and preventative nutrition and a focus on reducing obesity levels and HFSS foods.
In this presentation, we'll take a global perspective of how the US, EU, UK, LATAM, China and the Middle East have focused on and responded to a variety of nutrition and health issues and their applicable regulations.
Great Britain's food and beverage regulations and the EU-UK Trade and Co-operation Agreement
Presented by Oliver Leedam – Regulatory Consultant
In the run-up to and following the UK's exit from the EU on 1 January 2021, the UK Government has been working to amend the EU legislation imported into the UK statute book. These amends ensure that the imported legislation still works outside of the EU. In parallel, the EU has been amending their legislation so that the UK is no longer listed as a member state and clarifying that the UK now operates as a third country.
In this presentation, we'll discuss the impact of legislation changes on food and beverage businesses operating in Great Britain and the EU. Additionally, we'll discuss what the EU-UK Trade and Co-operation Agreement means for trade between the EU and UK, the problems and possible solutions surrounding the Northern Ireland Protocol.
Food and beverage sustainability claims – what does the future hold?
Presented by Mariko Kubo – Head of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs and Caroline Potter – Principal Consultant
The popularity of sustainability claims on food packaging is soaring with the anticipation of specific rules related to the Extended Producer Responsibility scheme. As plastic pollution increases globally, more and more countries are establishing regulations related to ‘Single Use Plastic (SUP)’. The ban of some single-use plastic items such as plastic straws is only one aspect of the SUP regulations. The more complex and emerging rules are the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes also need to be considered.
So, what do you need to know? This presentation will cover Extended Producer Responsibility schemes and other schemes, variations by market and a look at popular claims and how they can be used.
